Verband für nachhaltiges Umweltmanagement e. V.
German Association for Environmental Professionals
The Association and its Members:
VNU is an independent and non-profit making association established in 2000 in Frankfurt/M. as the legal successor of the two organisations Institute of Environmental Verifiers (IdU) and Organisation of Environmental Auditors and - Verifiers (UBV), both founded in 1994. The aim of the VNU is to promote environmental management systems and other related tools, which follow the idea of sustainable development.
The VNU represents some of the most important companies in the environmental management field in Germany (environmental consultants, verification organisations, independent verifiers, certification bodies and auditors).
The VNU represents those who are regularly employed by implementing, managing, optimising, upgrading, or monitoring of management systems.
The objectives:
Our main objectives are: To develop the environmental management market, to raise standards of professional competence and to harmonise criteria among the different regional governments, thus we work together with other organisations so that we can reach the aforesaid aims.
Our goal ahead is to develop and guide standards for an Integrated Sustainable Management Future and related upcoming new professions.
We are part and have influence in the ISO-organisation, working together with others on different standards; we are member of the EAC/FAB, Forum of Accreditation Bodies; we are a legal part of an advisory group to the German Government concerning EMAS (Environmental Verification Committee UGA) with influence to the Art. 14 task force in Brussels.
We think it is most important to collaborate with other European organisations so that we will be able to exchange experiences, provide a forum for discussion and follow common aims. Hence we are a member of EFAEP, European Federation of Associations of Environmental Professionals, and looking forward to its further development
The present activities of the VNU:
-Participation of environmental professionals in politics, institutions and public affairs
- Strengthening professional competence for sustainable economic management by organizing the exchange of experience and knowledge (organization of meetings, working groups, seminars, excursions and the like)
- Helping to develop new academic programs in the field of sustainability development
