AFITE is a French ONG non profit making institution of individual members (mostly doctor engineers, engineers, consulting engineers) created in 1979, counting about 1.800 members. To be a member you simply need to have a job connected to industrial environment and/or pollution abatement technologies (air, water, waste, noise, and industrial risks). AFITE receives no governmental funding and relies only on membership fees.

AFITE brings together specialists, professionals and technicians to discuss major questions concerning environmental protection , inform members about their proposals and questions.

TARGET GROUPS : Members come from: equipment manufacturers for pollution abatement ; energy ; industries ; laboratories ; monitoring bodies ; transport ; design and consulting offices ; technical governmental agencies ; banks and insurance companies ; specialised legal offices ; training centers ; regional authorities.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES : AFITE offers its members a professional directory ; an « AFITE INFORMATION » bulletin (six yearly issues) ; technical visits (10 per year) ; symposiums and conférences.

COMMITEES : AFITE has created technical commissions on environmental surveying :
- qualification and/ or agreement of experts, notions which call for precision and clarification. Subjects for discussion : définition and roles for the expert, state of the various regulations which involve experts (impact studies, danger studies, ISO and AFNOR standarts, analysis of industrial risks, environmental audits, teaching and training, etc.)
- commitee on wastes of any kinds (urban, industrial, and so on ...)
- commitee on french or european upcoming regulations
- commitee on industrial wastewater
and so on, depending on current environmental problems.
· commitee on Technical Risk.
· commitee on Environmental Services.

Afite was one of the three founders of EFAEP and, today, takes in charge its secretariat.
