2016 European Green Capital Ljubljana launch - 9th February

Ljubljana will become the new 2016 Green Capital of Europe at a high profile launch event and handover ceremony in Brussels on 9th February.  The year is an important opportunity for the holder to showcase sustainable urban development, share best practices and encourage other cities across Europe to become greener, healthier and more sustainable. The ceremony will serve to highlight Bristol’s accomplishments as European Green Capital 2015. Bristol has already promoted the Bristol Method, its programme to help people in other cities understand and apply the lessons Bristol has learned in becoming more sustainable. Ljubljana will then unveil its plans to dedicate each month of the year to a different environmental theme. European Green Capitals are selected on the basis of their achievements and commitment in twelve key areas.  The European Green Capital Award shows how cities benefit by pursuing green urban policies; policies that make cities more liveable, attract investment, create new jobs and growth, and raise their standing and appeal as tourist destinations.
